Turn on to Safe Driving of Iowa is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating students about safe driving and, particularly, to making students aware of the dangers of drinking and driving. Our primary product is a free study-guide and day-planner that can be provided to students by school administrators. The planner is set up similarly to a regular academic planner, but it combines a way for students to organize schoolwork with a way for students to learn about safe-driving. The planner is completely paid for by our local and federal sponsors. Our Vision and Product Car accidents are the leading cause of death among teens and pre-teens. Among the United States population as a whole, the leading causes of death are heart disease and cancer with car accidents coming in a distant fifth. There is no reason for car accidents to be such a high percentage of deaths among teens when so many teen car accidents can be prevented by simple measures such as buckling up and avoiding alcohol. If this year follows the same trend as last, car accidents will claim more than 30,000 young lives in the next twelve months. The chances that a teen will die this year at your school are high. We believe that education about and continual reinforcement of safe driving are crucial in reducing the amount of casualties related to teen car accidents. To provide such continual reinforcement we have developed our Turn on to Safe Driving day planner and study guide. The planner, much like other school planners, provides space for students to write daily homework assignments and goals for the week. It also provides common math formulas, punctuation rules and grammar tips. Although the eighty-page planner provides for each week in the school year, the planner is not dated so the planner can be started at any time during the year. Interspersed within the planner are various articles enforcing safe driving and teaching the dangers of drinking and driving. Besides the larger, page-length articles, almost every page has a small, safe-driving tip in a corner to continually remind students to be careful when behind the wheel.
